What Is Uveitis?
Uveitis is inflammation inside the eye that can affect the iris, ciliary body, choroid, or retina. It can be caused by autoimmune disease, infection, or occur without a known cause (idiopathic). Symptoms include eye pain, redness, light sensitivity, blurred vision, and floaters. Left untreated, uveitis can lead to permanent complications including glaucoma, cataracts, retinal scarring, and vision loss. Elman Retina Group is one of the few retina practices in Maryland with dual-fellowship trained specialists in both vitreoretinal surgery and uveitis. Our doctors work closely with rheumatologists and immunologists to develop comprehensive treatment plans combining local eye therapy with systemic immunosuppression when needed.
